“but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.” Luke 22:32
After Peter denied Jesus, their eyes met, “and he went out and wept bitterly.” I have to wonder at what point Peter recalled that Jesus had prayed for him. Peter knew that, despite his failure, Jesus had an expectation that he would turn (repent) and strengthen his brothers.
When we stumble, the expectation is that we get back up, repent, and help others. Imagine if Peter stayed stuck in shame, pride, or self pity! No, Jesus had work for him to do. The same is true for each of us. Let us strengthen and encourage one another to press on.
